Vitamin of the Week: Jeanne Brown (Portland)

Vitamin of the Week:...

Jeanne Brown

An ace agent from our powerful Portland market, creatives from all around the city know they can count on Jeanne to find them meaningful work.

A recent recommendation from a designer on her LinkedIn profile says, “My current career as a designer was only possible through Jeanne's hard work and dedication...When I needed anything at all, Jeanne was there. Truly an amazing person, she makes dreams come true.”

Learn more about this dream maker by reading the answers to our 7 Quick Questions!

  1. In your job, what’s been your favorite moment or biggest joy? Getting someone their dream position. That is really what makes this job so rewarding: finding people a perfect fit with the company they've always wanted to work for.

  2. What do you love about working with creative talent? Seeing their work out in public. I love walking into a store and recognizing a window display or label from someone's portfolio. I have a client who hired one of our talent design their menu at the Portland International Airport. I tell you it was so cool to see it in use!

  3. Best creative/digital event in your city? Portland Design Week is by far the best. Typically it happens in the fall, but this time around it’s spring (April 17 - 23, 2016). It's a great week of agency open houses, educational sessions, and networking events. There’s no better way to learn more about Portland’s design community and meet a ton of new people.

  4. Biggest myth about being a recruiter in the staffing industry? That we only want to help you find a job if it's through us. We’re aware that we might not always be the best resource for everyone (we try!), but our goal is to provide tools and be as helpful as possible. I always offer insight on clients or give advice on interviewing, whether I’m working with someone or not!

  5. What’s the BEST thing someone can do when looking for a job? You’ve heard it before, I’ll say it again: NETWORK! Get involved in Meetups and any other like-minded groups you can think of. Ask for informational interviews and, when you get them, be sure to always follow up. I'm continually hearing from people who’ve gotten jobs through their personal connections, so don't be afraid to ask people you know to help you make those connections. It works.

  6. What app do you use regularly that provides great user experience? Pinterest! I love that you can easily create new boards and pins with one click. It's completely seamless, the search is user friendly, and the overall interface is easy on the eyes.

  7. What’s the name of the last book you read? Cheryl Strayed’s autobiography Wild. It’s about the thousand-mile hike she took alone after she lost her mother and her marriage ended. It’s an engaging read about how one person choses to cope with their personal tragedy. Highly recommended! (And don’t worry, it’s also funny!)
